You may refresh your self in a pleasant place if you visit the spa of Orosháza. This complex is situated 3km far from the center of the town, and was rebuilt in recent years.


The water contains sodium, calcium, iodide and ferric, thus it is recommended for those who have some kind of motor or circulation problems or rheumatism. Inside the complex there are open-air and indoor pools, which include thermal pools, an aqua park, and swimming pools. Besides bathing different kinds of treatments are available like massages, sauna, solarium etc.


The first small settlement was destroyed by Tatar troops in the 13C. The first source which mentioned the name of the new settlement dates back to the 15C. First it was the property of János Hunyadi, than it became the property of his wife. When the Turks invaded Hungary in the 16C this land became deserted again. New settlers came from Transdanubian settlements in the 18C. These protestant settlers got the right of free public worship. The new settlement developed and grew very quickly. In the 19C, after the railway as laid down it became an important center. Besides trade, agriculture and food industry, Orosháza was famous for its glass industry. The bread of Orosháza also became famous all around Hungary after Ferenc Gémes, a baker master from Orosháza had 57 bakery in different settlements of Hungary.

It is a still developing, charming town today, famous from food industry even nowadays.

Place of interest

After refreshing your self in the spa you should take a walk in the town because there are some interesting exhibitions and some imposing buildings and monuments in the center of Orosháza.

If you would like to know more about the famous baker of Orosháza, you should take a walk to Ferenc Gémes’ former castle.

The old Bazaar was built in the 19C. You should visit this complex to see and understand how trade life worked and looked like in former centuries.

There is a special well museum in town. You can visit this exhibition in the former water tower which was built in 1930.

If you like fine arts, you should go to the town gallery, or to one of the smaller galleries in town.

If you have the time and the possibility and you like natural beauties, you should also visit the Arboretum nearby (Rágyánszki Arborétum) or explore the surrounding land. If you do so, don’t miss to visit the former castle of Gáspár Geist, which was built in the 19C and was designed by Miklós Ybl, one famous Hungarian architect.
