Újpesti Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda

1042- Budapest
Árpád út 114-120.

The former spa of Újpest was Erzsébet Baths. It was built in the 19C. After the Second World War the spa was rebuilt in socialist-realist style by the design of László Bene and Ferenc Szentmártoni. The water comes from Széchenyi Baths through a long-distance transmission line. The spa has different kinds of pools which include thermal pools and a swimming pool.

The history of Újpest started in the 19C. First grape cultivators settled here but by the end of the century more and more craftsmen opened their small shops here due to the important commercial routes which ran through this land. Due to this a new settlement came into live.

In 1907 it got the title of a town. By this time it already had its own hospital, post and a port by the side of the Danube. More and more new factories were opened. During the Second World War the town was attacked and has to bee rebuilt. In 1950 it became one of the districts of Budapest. Some extremely industrial develops were made and new block-houses were built.
