You may have a peaceful time if you visit the spa of Kunhegyes. The water contains iodide, thus it is mostly recommended for those who have some kind of joint problems. The spa has thermal pools, swimming pool and one small pool for the children. The complex is situated in a large, well-kept park, with some sport grounds around.

History

The first settlement was destroyed by the Tatar troops in the 13C. After, Cumaninan people settled here. This action still remains in the first part of the name of the settlement (“Kun-“). The first source which mentioned the name of Kunhegyes dates back to the 14C. In the 16C it became deserted, and after became the property of the Teutonic Order. The inhabitants bought their land back from the order in the 18C. In the 19C it was an oppidium, which means a small town with some privileges. Although Kunhegyes is a mostly agricultural place, in recent years, more and more of its inhabitants started to work in tourism.

Place of interest

After refreshing your self in the spa, you should take a walk around Kunhegyes and get to know about its history, culture and traditions.

You may visit the greatest Calvinist church of the Great Plane here. This imposing classicist church is also known as the cathedral of the Great Plane, and if you see it, you’ll probably think it really deserves this name!

The nicest, still remaining wind-mill of the Great Plane also can bee seen here. It was built in the 19C. If you would like to see more old farm-buildings, you should walk to the town library, which was before a salt-depot or just walk around the town without real destination, because there are some great old buildings to see, like old peasant’s houses from the 19C.

The surrounding land is rich in natural beauties and you may also find some good places for angling, so it is worth to explore! Some of the interesting small hills around are old craves or were before borer hills. One of the biggest is Gergely Hill nearby Kunhegyes.
