History

The earliest finds of Lenti date back to the Roman Ages. An important commercial road ran through this land.

The first source which mentioned the name of Lenti dates back to the 13C. Its name was “Nemith”, so it seams like most of its inhabitants were Germans. It was a marshy land but became important when the first marsh-fortress was built. In the 14C it was already an oppidium, which means it was a small town with some privileges. Though this land was attacked time after time during Turkish times, Lenti didn’t become part of the Ottoman Empire. During the 19C Lenti slowly developed, especially after the railway was laid down. After Trianon it had became borderland and lost its important commercial partners. In 1979 Lenti got the title of a town. Nowadays tourism is getting more and more important due to the spa and the St Georege’s Energy Park.

Place of interest

After refreshing your self in the spa you should take a walk in Lenti. In place of the former fortress you can see a nice, old, L shaped granary. It was built in the 18C. If you have the time you should take a small trip with the small train between Bázakerettye and Kistolmács, to see the small villages around Lenti, and wonder around this land’s natural beauties.

The nearby lakes are great places to take a rest, or for those who like angling. Those who like to know more about nature should visit the arboretum in Budafa.
